Darin finds a special connection to creating art on Mother Nature's wood and loves bringing the spirit that presents itself into the light for all to see. He relates the images and gives stories to the pieces as the links are made to the oral history stories of his culture. In a way, he gives a new voice to an old past. He works with bright bold colours, which are those he saw in people as a child. Darin believes that colour speaks volumes in emotional expression and so he uses it in his art. You will find a nod to Annishinaabe traditional art within his pieces, yet he pursues his own style and thus feels an evolution of cultural art has formed. Darin often finds that while he may begin with a concept in mind the art piece has a spirit of its own and he sees himself as a messenger helping to create and share it. Darin is originally from Eastern Canada where in his former life he was an RCMP member and then a School Teacher. He and his wife migrated from one coast to the other where we now live on Vancouver Island.
